TREATING YOUR CHILDREN.

Fear Allah and treat your children [small or grown] fairly (with equal justice).” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

We should keep the following hadith in mind when dealing with children:

Abu Huraira reported that al-Aqra' b. Habis saw Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) kissing Hasan. He said: I have ten children, but I have never kissed any one of them, whereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: He who does not show mercy (towards his children), no mercy would be shown to him.
Muslim :: Book 30 : Hadith 5736

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "He is not of us who does not have mercy on young children, nor honor the elderly"
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Act equally between your children; Act equally between your sons.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 3537,Narrated byAn-Nu'man ibn Bashir

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that there came a few desert Arabs to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Do you kiss your children? He said: Yes. Thereupon they said: By Allah but we do not kiss our children. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Then what can I do if Allah has deprived you of mercy? Ibn Numair said: ( has deprived) your heart of mercy.
Muslim :: Book 30 : Hadith 5735

The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) came to some children who were playing: He greeted them lovingly.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 5183,Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

Al-Bara' said, "I saw the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when al-Hasan was on his shoulder. He was saying, 'O Allah, I love him, so love him.'"

I prayed along with Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) the first prayer. He then went to his family and I also went along with him when he met some children (on the way). He began to pat the cheeks of each one of them. He also patted my cheek and I experienced a coolness or a fragrance of his hand as if it had been brought out from the scent bag of a perfumer.
Sahih Muslim Hadith 5758,Narrated by Jabir ibn Samurah

I heard An-Nu'man bin Bashir on the pulpit saying, "My father gave me a gift but 'Amra bint Rawaha (my mother) said that she would not agree to it unless he made Allah's Apostle as a witness to it. So, my father went to Allah's Apostle and said, 'I have given a gift to my son from 'Amra bint Rawaha, but she ordered me to make you as a witness to it,O Allah's Apostle!' Allah's Apostle asked, 'Have you given (the like of it) to everyone of your sons?' He replied in the negative. Allah's Apostle said, 'Be afraid of Allah, and be just to your children.' My father then returned and took back his gift."
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.760,Narrated by Amir

When the Prophet arrived at Mecca, the children of Bani 'Abdul Muttalib received him. He then mounted one of them in front of him and the other behind him.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith Volume 8 book 73 hadith #64
Narrated by Anas (when mentioning his childhood)
I served the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) for ten
years, and he never said to me, "Uf" (a minor harsh word
denoting impatience) and never blamed me by saying, "Why did
you do so or why didn't you do so?"
